Install the Retake App

Visit the Shopify App Store and install "Retake Cart Recovery". It's free to install.

Get Your API Key

Sign up for a Retake account (if you haven't already) and copy your API key from the dashboard.

Connect Your Store

Open the Retake app in your Shopify admin, paste your API key, and click "Connect".

  • The app will automatically configure webhook subscriptions
  • Your API key is stored securely - never exposed to customers

Enable the Theme Block

Go to your theme editor and add the "Retake Tracking" app block to your theme. This enables client-side tracking.

  • Go to Sales Channels → Online Store → Customize
  • Click "App embeds" in the left sidebar
  • Enable "Retake Tracking" and save

What Gets Tracked Automatically

Cart Updates

Every time a customer adds, removes, or updates items in their cart.

Checkout Started

When customer proceeds to checkout with their email.

Order Completed

Automatically cancels recovery emails when order is placed.

Customer Email

Captured as soon as it's entered in checkout.

Troubleshooting

App Block Not Showing?

If you don't see the "Retake Tracking" option in your theme editor:

  1. Make sure you're using a Shopify 2.0 theme (Dawn or similar)
  2. Try refreshing the theme editor page
  3. Check that the app is fully installed (no pending permissions)
